Copy your WordPress site to VEDOS Hosting WP and try it there for free - our server downloads the files and database directly.

== Description ==

VEDOS Migration creates a test copy of your website on VEDOS Hosting WP. You can try the speed of the hosting, test
updates, plugins or a new design and check that everything works - your original website stays unchanged and keeps
running on your current hosting the whole time. If you are satisfied, you can switch to the paid Hosting WP and move
your domain to it.

How it works:

* Click *Create a test copy* on the plugin page.
* A VEDOS hosting server takes the task and downloads the files and the database of your site directly, in many short
  requests. No backup archive is created on your hosting, so the transfer works even with a low PHP time limit and
  little free disk space.
* The copy is created on Hosting WP under a test address and you see the progress on the plugin page.
* When it is ready, you log in to the copied WordPress with the same credentials as on the original website.

What is copied: all files of the WordPress installation, including `wp-config.php` (with the database password and the
security keys of the site), and all database tables with the table prefix of the site, including all personal data
stored in them (user accounts, e-mail addresses, comments, orders and other data of your visitors and customers).
Not copied: caches, temporary files, backups of other backup plugins (UpdraftPlus, All-in-One WP Migration, Duplicator,
WPvivid, BackWPup and others), `.git` directories, error logs and this plugin itself.

Requirements: a single WordPress site (Multisite is not supported yet), WordPress 6.2 or newer, PHP 7.4 or newer.

= External services =

This plugin works with the VEDOS Hosting service. Nothing is sent anywhere until you start a transfer by clicking
*Create a test copy* (or by `wp vedos-migration prepare`).

* **API of the service** - `https://api.vedos.hosting/api/vedos-migration`
  * When you start a transfer, the plugin sends the address of the site (home and site URL), the WordPress, PHP and
    plugin versions and a one-time migration ID and key (valid 3 days). The service needs them to queue the transfer
    and to reach your site.
  * While the plugin page is open and the transfer waits for a hosting server, the plugin asks the API about its state
    (at most every 10 seconds; the request contains the migration ID and is signed by the key).
* **VEDOS Hosting server** - with the migration key it downloads **all files and the whole database of the site**
  (except the items listed above), including `wp-config.php` and the personal data stored in the database, to create
  the copy on its servers, and reports the progress back to the site. Every request is signed by the key and all data
  is sent encrypted by a key derived from it (also when the site runs on plain http); the key works only for this one
  transfer, expires after 3 days, is removed when the transfer finishes and you can revoke it at any time with
  *Cancel the transfer*.

By starting a transfer you hand over the files and the database of the site, including the personal data in them, to
VEDOS Hosting to create the test copy.

The service is provided by VEDOS Hosting (https://vedos.hosting, support@vedos.hosting):

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Does the transfer change my website? =

No. The hosting server only reads the files and the database of your site. Your website, its domain and its hosting
stay unchanged.

= Do I need free disk space or a long PHP time limit? =

No. No backup archive is created on your hosting; the files and the database are downloaded in small parts, each
request takes a few seconds at most.

= How long does the transfer take? =

It depends on the size of the website - usually a few minutes. You can close the plugin page, the transfer continues
without it.

= How do I log in to the copy? =

With the same user name and password as on your original website.

= How is the access to my website protected? =

Only the hosting server that took your transfer gets the one-time migration key. Every request of the server is signed
by it and checked by the plugin, and everything the plugin sends back is encrypted by a key derived from it; the key
expires after 3 days, is removed when the transfer finishes and you can revoke it at any time on the plugin page.

= Is WordPress Multisite supported? =

Not yet. The transfer is available for single websites only.

= Can I transfer the website again? =

Yes. Start a new transfer on the plugin page; the previous migration key stops working.
