The .cz domain is the most popular extension in our country. It is a Czech ccTLD(country code top-level domain). However, Czech characters with accents are not supported by this domain; if you want a domain name with hooks and commas, choose .eu.

Who is behind the .cz domain

The .cz domain is managed by the CZ.NIC registry , an association that also has the MojeID service in its portfolio.

Auctions of .cz domains

On 1 May 2024, the Registry changed the expiration rules for .cz domains: instead of being removed from the Registry, the domain now goes to auction after the expiration of the protection period. The winner of such an auction can then choose any registrar to register the domain with. However, this registrar must offer direct domain registration. VEDOS allows direct domain registration.

What is the DOMAIN?

A domain is a unique address that you enter into your browser to display your website, for example "moje-stranka.cz". It's actually a numeric name that's easier for humans to remember.

Domains are unique names for computers and servers on the Internet that hide their numeric value (IP address) through which the computers communicate.

TLD (Top Level Domain) - Top Level Domain. A domain listed at the end of a domain name. For example, the Czech national domain cz in the name vedos.cz. TLDs can be divided into several groups according to their meaning. For example, ccTLDs (Country code Top Level Domain), which are national domains, or gTLDs (generic TLDs), which are not associated with a specific country, but with a specific meaning (com, net, org, info, biz and others).

How is it possible that you have such low domain prices?

In our opinion, domains are part of web hosting, so we register and renew them at purchase prices without any margin or extra fee. We have believed this since the founding of WEDOS Internet, Inc. and the management of the company has even made a legally enforceable public promise that this will always be the case. If you keep your domains with us, you will never pay anything extra.

How do I transfer a domain from another provider?

To re-register a domain with us, use the domain re-registration order form.

Changing the registrar for .CZ domains is free of charge. For other domain extensions, a re-registration fee is paid according to the specific registry and at the same time the domain must be extended for 1 year (the extension is already at our prices). 365 days will be added to the original expiration date of the domain, so you will not lose any prepaid time.

The transfer of .CZ domains is done online, while for other extensions it may take a few days. However, during the whole process, the presentation on the original server remains functional.

Why is the price of a domain in some cases lower for the first year than in subsequent years?

Domain prices are offered at purchase prices set by the registry and therefore cannot be directly influenced by us. For some domains, the registry offers a discounted price for the first year, while in subsequent years the price returns to the normal level.

What else do I need for a domain?

Domain registration alone is not enough to get your website up and running. In addition to a domain, you need web hosting, which provides space for storing your website files and making them available online. If you don't want to use a traditional web host, you can opt for integrated solution platforms that offer a custom site builder and also provide hosting on their servers. Without hosting or any other intermediary, your domain would just be a registered address with no content that users won't see online.
