Web hosting, VPS, or dedicated server?

Not sure what the exact differences are between web hosting, a virtual private server (VPS), and a dedicated server, and can't decide which is the best solution for running your website or other applications?

If you want to run a website, for example, you can use any of our hosting products— web hosting, VPS, or a dedicated server. The differences between them lie in the options they offer, the complexity of administration, performance, the degree of server sharing with other customers, and so on.

Web hosting

The simplest option for the general public is web hosting. Here, the customer does not have to worry about much– all they need to do is upload the content of their website via FTP, fill the database, create email accounts for their domain via the administration panel, and that's it.

We take full care of the servers on which web, email, database, and other related services are operated. We perform maintenance, security settings, updates, monitor their functionality and load, and resolve any related issues (with the exception of errors directly in the customer's PHP application).

However, the web hosting options are fixed. Only PHP applications using a MySQL/MariaDB database can be run on it. For PHP, the modules that can be used are precisely defined, and various restrictions apply—maximum script runtime, maximum memory for running a single script, etc. These restrictions cannot be modified or changed individually.

If you are looking for web hosting for a more demanding website, choose the additional service Extra – it offers more performance, better parameters, and daily backups.

Web hosting is a shared service. This means that several hundred customers are located on one web hosting server, sharing the performance of the entire server.

Despite some limitations, web hosting is the most widespread service that fully satisfies the vast majority of customers. The limiting parameters are set relatively high and a wide range of PHP modules are available. Customers do not have to worry about anything and do not need to have any in-depth computer knowledge. Most open source applications work on our web hosting – content management systems, e-shops, discussion forums, etc.

    Virtual Private Server (VPS)

The second level consists of virtual servers (VPS). Here, the customer getstheir own "empty" server running in a virtualized environment, on which they can run any operating system with any software and therefore any application. They have full access to the server (as Administrator on Windows or as root on Linux). If they install PHP on the server, they can add any modules and use any settings.

VPS is therefore about freedom of choice– customers can do whatever they want with it, because they have the server all to themselves and do not affect other customers in any way.

However, customers musthave a relatively goodunderstanding of matters related to operating their own server, installing and configuring an operating system, securing the server, installing and configuring applications on the server, etc. We provide a bare server with a basic installation of an operating system, or a Debian ISP package (which also includes Apache, PHP, MySQL, a mail server, a DNS server, and the ISPConfig control panel). The rest is up to the customer. We only take care of ensuring that the virtualization environment works. The customer is fully responsible for what runs on the VPS.

However, VPS stillshares some resources with other customers. We can run dozens of virtual servers on a single physical server. VPS therefore shares processor power and I/O performance with others on the same server. VPS is therefore still not suitable for extremely demanding applications that require multiple processors, more than 4 GB of RAM, etc.

    Dedicated servers

Dedicated servers are designed for the most demanding customers. dedicated servers. In this case, we lease a physical server that is fully available to the customer. As with VPS, the customer can run anything on such a server, but in addition, they have the entire performance of the server exclusively for themselves.

With dedicated servers, it is also possible to design yourown individual configuration– type and number of processors, memory, type and number of disks. Some items are in stock, others are available to order.

We lease hardware to customers; it cannot be purchased. However,we guarantee the hardware, repair any faults at our expense, and replace faulty components at our expense.

But again, as with VPS, we don't care what runs on this hardware. This is again entirely up to the customer – either they understand it themselves or they find someone who will take care of it for them.
