History of WEDOS / VEDOS
WEDOS was founded in 2010 and within 31 months became the largest web hosting provider in the Czech Republic.
We have two private datacenters where only our servers and technology are located. In addition, in the second datacenter, DC2, the servers are cooled by an oil bath. We are not afraid to invest in technology, innovation and research so that we can provide services to the widest possible audience. At the same time, thanks to this, we have been able to keep very reasonable prices for hosting services for a long time and respond to current market demands.
WEDOS DC 1 "Bunker"
Our first datacenter was established in 2010 together with WEDOS Internet, a.s. It originally served as a civil defence shelter in a strategic location. Between 2018 and 2020, it was modernised at a cost of CZK 20 million. We purchased a new transformer station, two generators, strengthened freecooling, cooling, electrical network and created two independent branches of connectivity and electricity.
The datacenter has three independent internet routes from two suppliers (3×100 Gbps). Each rack has a minimum of 2×10 Gbps, and the HPE Moonshot server cabinets are connected at 4×20 Gbps.
There are at least two people in the building 24 hours a day. Key staff live in Hluboká nad Vltavou or within a five-minute drive. We have two in-house electricians with datacenter experience.
WEDOS DC 2 "Underground"
We started building our second datacenter in 2014 as a unique project where servers are cooled by an oil bath and water cooling. It is the first commercial datacenter with this technology for up to 10,000 servers. They produce enough heat to flood a city swimming pool in winter.
The datacenter is pursuing the prestigious TIER IV Operational Sustainability certification, referred to as Gold TIER, which only a few datacenters in the world have. The entire infrastructure is built to these exacting requirements, which include strict standards for security, availability and redundant power.
For example, there will be five engine generators for continuous operation and all infrastructure will be separated by barriers with a burn-through certification of at least 90 minutes.
History
WEDOS (abbreviation of WEBHOSTING, DOMAINS, SERVERS)
The company was founded in 2010. The whole process of building the datacenter and launching the services was a "reality show". Interested parties could watch how the premises were being prepared, cooling was being built or the servers themselves were being placed.
From the very beginning, we take care in the selection of hardware (eco-efficient servers with Intel XEON processors). All installations are made in such a way as to achieve the lowest possible electricity consumption. Our entire system is built on a greenfield site and we have strived for full automation.
