1. Domain insurance in case of theft

The first is domain insurance itself, in case of theft, which is referred to in the terms and conditions as technical domain theft(unauthorized removal of access to the domain from its rightful owner). The amount of insurance compensation depends on the service option. We currently offer the Jistota option with coverage of CZK 1,000,000 and the Jistota EXTRA option with coverage of CZK 3,000,000.

2. IT assistance services

IT assistance services are mainly available for quick consultations. This is a standard offer of IT assistance services for Slavia pojišťovna products, extended to include domains. Assistance services are included in both options (Jistota and Jistota EXTRA).

IT assistance services can help you with, for example:

With the procedure for domain theft, checking documents, and consulting with the registrar.
Preventing fraud during domain transfers.
When locking a domain.
In the area of proprietary emails and domain change authorization.
Upon expiration of ownership and renewal of the domain.

3. Legal assistance services

Every successful website will sooner or later encounter attempts to misuse its brand (domain). The solution may not be easy, but a letter written by a lawyer will prompt many cybercriminals to find an easier victim. Slavia Insurance has included legal assistance services in its Jistota EXTRA product.

We have to admit that they have studied the situation surrounding domains very thoroughly. These are issues that we regularly have to deal with our customers.

How domain insurance works

Domain insurance is ordered as an additional service to the domain. However, you do not pay us for it (due to strict rules of the Czech National Bank). After completing the domain registration, you will receive an email with instructions, which also contains a link to our partner Pojištění.cz.

Domain insurance is arranged immediately after payment and takes effect immediately. The insurance is valid as long as you have your domain with WEDOS (we are the registrar) and the owner (holder) does not change.

Assistance services are provided on working days from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. based on a telephone request from the insured person. The current number to call can be found at www.pojisteni.cz/domeny.

In the event of domain theft, Slavia Insurance will pay you insurance compensation if the domain is not returned within 30 days, or within 180 days from countries
outside the EU.

What domain extensions can you insure?

Currently, you can only insure .cz domains with us.

What should I do if my domain is stolen?

The ideal solution is to contact us (the domain registrar) first via online chat. Our colleagues will verify the technical status of the domain. They will then look directly into WHOIS and check the current data. We can also provide and prepare the necessary evidence (logs).
If you suspect that a crime has been committed (your domain has been stolen), you should contact the Czech Police.
You should also contact the assistance line (the current number can be found at www.pojisteni.cz/domeny) and try to cooperate as much as possible.

How exactly is domain theft defined?

You will always find the exact definition in the contract. The insurance company defines domain theft as technical theft of a domain, which is the unauthorized removal of access to the domain from its rightful owner.
The insurance company will pay the insurance benefit if the domain is not returned to the insured by the registrar within 30 days of reporting the insured event. In the case of domain return from countries outside the EU, the period is extended to 180 days.

Who can guarantee that the money will actually be paid out?

If the terms of the contract are met, Slavia Insurance Company is required by law to pay the insurance compensation. It is a large and well-known insurance company with billions in turnover and is supervised by the Czech National Bank.

The domain holder does not have a registered office in the Czech Republic. Is there any way to insure the domain?

Only domains registered to individuals/companies based in the Czech Republic can be insured.

The terms and conditions (Article 10, 3.d) contain a number of complex measures that I must carry out. Are they mandatory?

The contractual terms and conditions in Article 10, Exclusions from Insurance, point 3. d) contain the following text:

d) if the insured party fails to take appropriate measures (e.g., verification of data by email and SMS, domain lock, verification via MojeID, blocking registrar changes) or takes them in an insufficient manner, or fails to provide adequate cooperation to the competent state authority in direct or indirect connection with the insured event,

Insurance companies must provide examples of how the domain should be secured. This is a list of security measures that the insurance company will inquire about in the event of a loss event.
If we were to draw a parallel with cars, the contract would state: "The client must have adequate anti-theft security on the vehicle (e.g., mechanical, alarm, passive search, active search, window sanding)." If they had no security, the insurance company could propose a reduction in compensation because they simply did not perform it sufficiently.
You should definitely have your domain well secured. Make sure that your phone number and email address are up to date. Domains can also be locked against changes, which is another obstacle for attackers.

Who provides support for the Domain Insurance service?

If you need advice or help with the product, please contact POJISTENI.cz support. All contracts go through them, and they are also responsible for orders, invoicing, etc. They will also answer any other questions you may have about the product.

Will I really get CZK 1 million for a stolen domain?

If an insured event occurs, the value of the domain will be assessed. This may or may not include the content of the domain. It's the same as if your bike is stolen and you have it insured for CZK 100,000, but you've already ridden it or it was old. That's just how traditional insurance works.
You cannot speculate that if you are insured for a million and you lose your domain, you will automatically receive a million CZK. Theoretically, you can get it if you provide evidence that the domain is worth that much. There are clear rules for this (e-shop turnover for a certain period, etc.). It is fair. A newly registered domain with no meaning, consisting of twenty random letters, with no content, will simply not have a value of a million CZK.
